The number of practicing lawyers in Saudi Arabia has increased by 315% in seven years

The Ministry of Justice reported on Wednesday that there are now 315% more practising attorneys in Saudi Arabia than there were seven years ago. The Saudi Press Agency reported that, according to a ministry official, 15,936 licences were issued to attorneys in 2023. 3,844 licences were given to female attorneys, a significant increase from the 102 accreditations that were given out seven years earlier, as per the government.

The judicial system in the Kingdom has undergone a rapid transformation in recent years, including the approval of the Rules of Professional Conduct for Lawyers by Justice Minister Walid Al-Samaani, strengthening the values of transparency, and enabling foreign law firms to offer consultancy services regarding Saudi laws.

Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud, Saudi Arabia's ambassador to the US, noted the growing significance of Saudi women attorneys in the Kingdom's transition. On Wednesday, she tweeted in honour of International Law Day: "The legal field is just one of the many sectors where women are excelling in the Kingdom under #Vision_2030."

Princess Reema, a pioneer in corporate innovation and an advocate for women's empowerment, was abruptly removed from her position as deputy minister at the General Entertainment Authority in early 2019 to assume duties as the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's first female ambassador to the US.
