Travel back in time and admire Saudi Arabia’s rich history and cultural legacy at Al-Dirah Asalah Museum on Tarout Island

Travel back in time and take in Saudi Arabia's rich cultural past at the Al-Dirah Asalah Museum on Tarout Island in the Eastern Province.  The museum's owner, Mahdie Maylw, took a challenge to erect the building that was formerly his grandfather's house, which was about to collapse.

The Ministry of Culture now grants permission for the museum, which is housed in a magnificently restored structure with a typical Saudi architectural flair. The museum is set up with several sections, such as a toy room, an electronics room, a book and text corner, a pottery corner, and a vintage watch corner.

One of the most visited areas of the museum is the "Bride's Room," which features a variety of objects used by a bride for her wedding. The chamber is furnished with furnishings crafted in India and a selection of cosmetics that span 50 to 100 years of age.

The traditional technique of pearl extraction is honoured in the "Divers Room," or tawashin in Arabic. There are antique tools in the region that were formerly used to dive for pearls, such as a compass and a rope box. The tools range in age from 70 to 150 years.

Along with traditional ceramics, artwork, manuscripts, and household objects that shed light on earlier cultures and civilizations, visitors may also peruse an impressive collection of rare and expensive artefacts.
