The leaders—President Irfaan Ali of Guyana, President Chan Santokhi of Suriname, Prime Minister Keith Rowley of Trinidad, and Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit of Dominica—left Barbados for Riyadh. They are accompanied by the majority of the leaders of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS).
The Riyadh-Caribbean Summit is the most recent partnership Saudi Arabia has established with nations worldwide as part of its effort to broaden its revenue streams in line with Vision 2030, the Crown Prince's pet project. The Saudi-African summit and the urgent Arab-Islamic conference on Gaza were both held in Saudi Arabia last week.
The Caribbean Community and Common Market, or CARICOM, is an intergovernmental body that unites 15 member states from the Americas and the Atlantic Ocean in a political and economic union. Their main goals are to coordinate their foreign policy, guarantee that the advantages of integration are distributed fairly, and encourage economic integration and collaboration among their members.
Investments, commerce, fundamental projects, hospitality, energy, climate change, and environmental sustainability are among the topics that will be covered at the summit. Saudi Arabia is eager to fortify its ties with the nations of the Caribbean Basin, as well as Central and South America, according to articles published in Caribbean newspapers on Tuesday.
Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan, declared in May of last year that his nation is eager to deepen its cooperative and amicable ties with nations in the Caribbean. In his speech at the Association of Caribbean States' 28th Ministerial Council meeting in Guatemala, he emphasised his dedication to collaborating with foreign partners to realise the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
