An artist's concept of the King Salman International Stadium has been unveiled, showcasing Saudi Arabia's planned showpiece venue for the World Cup final. The stadium’s design, inspired by the shape of a seed, symbolizes growth and development. Slated for completion by late 2029, this stadium will act as the primary hub for the Saudi national football team. It is expected to host the opening and closing matches of the 2034 FIFA World Cup, alongside other major national and international sports and entertainment events.
Populous, the design firm behind the project, released detailed renders this week of the expansive venue. It will be located in northern Riyadh along King Salman Road, adjacent to King Abdulaziz Park. The masterplan integrates sports facilities, commercial hubs, and recreational spaces to create a comprehensive development.
“The planting of these ‘seeds’ represents Saudi Arabia’s dedication to fostering and expanding sports engagement throughout the nation, from grassroots initiatives to elite competitions,” the firm stated.
The centerpiece stadium will offer over 92,000 seats, including features such as a Royal Box, premium skyboxes, hospitality lounges, 300 VVIP seats, and 2,200 VIP seats. Visitors can enjoy internal screens, lush gardens, and a rooftop walkway with panoramic views of King Abdulaziz Park.
The broader development will include multiple amenities, such as commercial spaces, training grounds for football, fan zones, an Olympic-standard aquatics center, and an athletics arena. Additional facilities will feature an indoor sports hall, a community park for activities like basketball, volleyball, and padel, and a 9-kilometer sports track connecting these features to King Abdulaziz Park.
