It is now possible for expats to update their passport information using their employers' Absher platform accounts without having to physically visit the General Directorate of Passports' offices (Jawazat). SR69, including VAT, will be charged as a service fee to use this online service.
Foreign nationals should be older than eighteen years upon passport renewal. This feature is accessible via the "My Services" of the platform. Users can access the "Passports" section, access the Resident Identity Services, and change their passport details.
The platform automatically reads the passport number and expiration date when a clear photo of the passport is uploaded to the Absher website. It requires the expatriate to sign a commitment when viewing the new passport details on Absher, stating that the previous passport must not be lost and that there is no record of "absence from work" against the resident.
The residency permit (iqama), for which the updated passport information is to be registered, must not contain any traffic infractions. They must be alive and in good health, and neither the employer nor the employee may be subject to any security limitations.
An employee will have their passport information updated once every five years. The same resident must personally contact the Jawazat office if they have multiple passports.
To use the service in the event that the prior passport is lost, one must physically visit the Jawazat office.
The person who completes the service will be responsible for registering the new or renewed passport, and he will be held fully accountable if it turns out that the passport was not authentic.
If family members who have since obtained new passports are listed on the old passport, a personal visit to the Jawazat office is required to update the information.
