NewsThe Saudi Press Agency reported on Thursday that Saudi Arabia had established the world's largest sustainable farm, earning it a spot in the Guinness World Records. The farm is a branch of the Asir region's Bin Hashbal Valley Water Farm Research Unit, which has been revitalised.
At an event hosted by the Saudi Reef Programme at its Riyadh offices, Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli accepted the registration certificate from Guinness World Records. Attending the ceremony were Ghassan Bakri, Secretary-General of the Reef Programme, Mansour Al-Mushaiti, the Deputy Minister of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, and other ministry employees.
The farm spans more than 3.2 million square metres and is split into two areas. Each sector has a 500 cubic metre concrete tank and an automated irrigation system that provides water to every plant in the fields. The farm also features other structures and five air-conditioned, covered dwellings. The farm uses treated water for agricultural irrigation, and professionals and specialists carry out the operation in many stages. In addition to the twenty more fields that will be rehabilitated and planted in the future, there are fifty fruit tree fields. Clover, lemons, oranges, tangerines, pomegranates, grapes, figs, almonds, and olives are all grown in one area of the farm.
