Saudi Arabia will participate in a unique camel parade in France on Saturday, to commemorate the UN's declaration of 2024 as the International Year of Camelids. Under the auspices of the International Camel Organization, the French Federation for the Development of Camelids in France and Europe is in charge of organizing the Paris event. The Saudi Ministry of Culture and the Kingdom's Camel Club are sponsors of the event.
The event has been held for the past three years. The occasion was held twice: once in January 2019 and one again in 2022.
More than fifty representatives of organizations dedicated to camels from over thirty countries are anticipated to march with camels, llamas, alpacas, and other members of the camelid family of animals. Government officials, camel breeders, animal enthusiasts, and performers from a variety of performing arts disciplines will also be present.
The US, the UAE, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Canada, India, Morocco, Tanzania, Peru, Algeria, the Czech Republic, Pakistan, Tunisia, Austria, Spain, Burundi, Senegal, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mauritania, France, Sudan, Chad, Angola, the UK, and Uganda will be represented, in addition to Saudi Arabia.
According to the Saudi Press Agency, Saudi delegates will stress the Kingdom's role in promoting camels as a cultural emblem that has been connected to Saudi society since antiquity and "still enjoys great prestige."
