Supported by Saudi Arabia's SRJ Sports Investments, a new international Twenty20 cricket league is being developed that might be one of the biggest developments to the game in decades. Cricketer Neil Maxwell, from Australia, is leading the league.
With games scheduled to take place in four different venues throughout the globe each year, the planned eight-team league draws inspiration from the Grand Slams of tennis. Saudi Arabia is anticipated to provide the most financial support in the league, contributing $500 million (AU$800 million) to the initiative. The sport's international governing body, the International Cricket Council (ICC), is still being consulted.
By making significant investments in Formula 1, LIV Golf, and the 2034 FIFA World Cup hosting rights, the Saudi government has been actively increasing its footprint in international sports. The addition of this T20 league would broaden its portfolio.
