NewsTo provide pilgrims distinctive presents that honour Saudi Arabia's rich cultural legacy and creative diversity, the Royal Institute for Traditional Arts worked with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Gifts including prayer mats, were distributed, at reception locations including the King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah and the Saudi Arabia Railways-owned Haramain High-Speed Railway. Traditional Saudi artistic forms, such as Arabic calligraphy, were blended into prayer mat patterns.
Al-Qatt Al-Asiri art designs also featured geometric patterns that were influenced by wicker art, which employs raw materials from palm trees to lend a sense of nature. The mats also included ornamental patterns that can be seen on Najdi wooden doors, such as botanical and geometric patterns, as well as balcony designs with forms that depict the desert climate, which added a distinctive aspect.
