The Bajali Almond Festival opened today in Al-Ruddaf, Taif, exhibiting the region's various products. The four-day event, held near the Eid prayer centre, helps farmers advertise their wares and will also include wild figs and prickly pears.
Majed bin Abdullah Al-Khalif, the director general of the Makkah area's Ministry of Environment, Water, and Agriculture, told Arab News that the government is trying to build a sustainable agricultural economy in the region. The event is being organised by the ministry's office in partnership with private organisations and more than 30 farmers from Maysan and Taif.
Hani Al-Qadi, the head of the ministry's Taif office, stated that measures are in place to assist farmers in increasing their output and selling their food at various sites.
According to the two authorities, Taif Governor Prince Saud bin Nahar bin Saud is financing the event and is committed to improving the region's agricultural industry. Aramco inked an agreement in June with the Makkah Region Development Authority and the Haddad Bani Malik Multipurpose Cooperative Society to fund modest projects in the Kingdom. The goal is to help the local economy by growing and producing almonds in Maysan.
