NewsSaleh Al-Jasser, the chairman of the General Authority of Civil Aviation in Saudi Arabia, and dignitaries, on Monday, attended the opening of the first office of the Airports Council International (ACI) for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East in Riyadh. There were also senior officials from 49 other countries present. ACI is a network of airport authorities that aims to harmonise industry standards for airports by collaborating with national and international organisations, governments, and regional members.
Al-Jasser declared during the ceremony of the office's launching that it would advance the interests of the member airports in the international council and increase prospects in the aviation industry. He said that it symbolised the Kingdom's leadership position in international organisations and its considerable contribution to the aviation and air transport sectors.
In order to serve the requirements of Asian airports, the ACI for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East was founded in 1991. The ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East office was established in 2006 after the merger of the Asia and Pacific offices. It presently has 131 members from 49 different nations, and it is in charge of 617 airports across the Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific.
