News EventUnder the theme "Your Story, Your Festival," the third Red Sea International Film Festival will be place in Jeddah from November 30 to December 9. The Red Sea Labs, which oversee the Lodge feature film development programme, is a crucial part of the Red Sea Film Foundation. It is administered in association with TorinoFilmLab and is supported by Film AlUla. Red Sea Labs is the new home of the fourth Red Sea Lodge Programme, which returns after the great success of its previous iterations.
The Red Sea Film Foundation launched the Red Sea Lab with the goal of enabling authors, filmmakers, and other industry professionals to follow their artistic dreams. During a media engagement on Monday at the Ritz Carlton in Jeddah, Red Sea Labs chief Ryan Ashore stressed the importance of advancement in bringing in new regions. The initiative is to assist up-and-coming filmmakers in Saudi Arabia, the Arab Gulf, and Africa. Projects that are chosen will have access to resources including a large network of industry experts and mentors in the film industry. A total of $200,000, or $50,000 for each of four initiatives, is presented by The Lodge.
"In the Beginning it is the End" by Ghadeer Binabbas, "The Night Whisperer" by Lina Mahmoud, "Mecca, Berlin" by Mujtaba Saeed, "By Hasnaa's Side" by Amaal Yousef, and "The Middle One" by Sarah Mohammed Almuneef are a few of the projects chosen from the Kingdom.
Projects like Mohamed Kassaby's "An Endless Night," Samer Battikhi's "The Girl and the Missing Bed," Wessam Hachicho's "Temporary Lives," Wissam Tanios' "The Sun Seens Everything," and Fatma Riahi's "My Father Killed Bourguiba" are examples of how the Arab world is depicted.
African efforts in the meanwhile include Vincho Nchogu's "Fantastic Tale" and Naishe Nyamubaya's "Black Snake."
"Music for Film," a week-long intensive on-site training programme, is another initiative run by Red Sea Labs.
The goal of this programme is to help musicians advance their abilities in both music composition and film scoring.
Along with a wealth of seminars and workshops, the programme provides a complete curriculum rich in technical elements and tools embracing the talents that a composer needs to produce unique music to the highest standards.
