NewsA new agreement was signed by Saudi Arabian Mining Co., known as Ma'aden. A mangrove park is scheduled to be established in Jubail as a result of the agreement.
The company signed a memorandum of agreement with Yanbu and the Royal Commission for Jubail, a step that would help Saudi Arabia preserve its biodiversity and sequester carbon. The strategy aligns with the mining company's objective of being carbon neutral by 2050, which includes planting 10 million mangroves and 10 million terrestrial trees by 2040.
It also supports the goal of the Saudi Green Initiative, which is to plant 100 million mangroves in Saudi Arabia by 2030. This initiative is expected to offset around 96 million tonnes of carbon emissions and contribute to the stabilisation of the Kingdom's shoreline ecosystems. Both sides will collaborate closely on research projects pertaining to mangrove planting and ecosystem health as per the agreement.
The two organisations will also collaborate on creating neighbourhood programmes that support ecosystem restoration and raise environmental awareness.
